Study Wins Best Open Access Paper in PLoS Medicine Poll

A paper written by HSPH research fellow Goodarz Danaei, associate professor Majid Ezzati, and their colleagues was voted by readers as "the best medical paper published under an open-access license," PLoS Medicine has announced. The paper, "Preventable Causes of Death in the United States: Comparative Risk Assessment of Dietary, Lifestyle, and Metabolic Risk Factors," was published in the April 2009 issue of PLoS Medicine and is available. The journal announced the competition to celebrate its anniversary and to "highlight the crucial importance of open access in medical publishing," according to a press release.

 

Mindfulness Meditation Practice Held Mondays During Lunch Hour

A mindfulness meditation group meets weekly at HSPH and is open to all members of the LMA community. Fall semester sessions are from 12:30 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. in Kresge 201. No previous meditation practice is required. Student Government President Sanchez Honored by Mayor

HSPH Student Government president Ramon Sanchez received a certificate of recognition from the City of Boston during a ceremony on September 14 for his community service activities within the Latino community in the city. A reception followed at the Museum of Fine Arts. Sanchez was honored for his "commitment and dedication to the Mexican community in the City of Boston."
